Walking Bus

We developed the walking bus to encourage a healthy lifestyle and to promote safety awareness of roads. We guide the children on the 15-minute walk to ensure they all arrive at the community hall safely and together. A full risk assessment, which considers and accounts for all factors, has been completed, and children are provided with reflective safety jackets and, when necessary, waterproof ponchos. The children get to walk on local nature trails and see lots of wildlife. There are also a number of other benefits, including:

Counts Toward the Recommended 60 Minutes of Physical Activity a Day - Promotes Safety Awareness of Roads and Environmental Hazards - Promotes a Safe, Non-Polluting, and Sustainable Transport Alternative to Cars and Buses - Helps Foster a Sense of Community as Families Get to Know Each Other and Their Children Become Friends - Encourages Physical Activity by Teaching Children the Skills to Walk Safely, How to Identify Safe Routes to School, and the Benefits of Walking
